U.K. Indie Pop Artist Cavetown Releases “Home”; Fall Headline Tour Announced

20-year-old U.K. singer/songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Cavetown celebrates signing to Sire Records with the release of “Home.” Originally released in 2015 as “This Is Home,” the song is one of Cavetown’s most popular tracks, with over 20M streams to date. The new version showcases Cavetown’s evolution as a singer and producer, stemming from his humble roots as a 15-year-old releasing homemade music on YouTube to ultimately amassing nearly 80M video views and a committed fan base who are over 1.7M monthly Spotify listeners and 870K YouTube subscribers strong.

The song is released alongside the official video in the form of a pop-up book with lyrics. Conceived with the help of creative director Taha Khan and London-based paper engineer Helen Friel, the video took months of painstaking and time-intensive handmade effort, with each pop-up page a maze of intricate and interlocking paper work. Khan explains that the video, "draws inspiration from classic Disney fairytales and the lyrics themselves.” An exclusive 7” vinyl of “Home” will also be released next Friday, June 14, with pre-orders now available here.

As for why he is re-releasing the track, Cavetown explains “I like to rerecord older songs that I care about a lot when I think that the production doesn't do it the justice I feel it deserves. It was time for an upgrade.”

Earlier this week, Cavetown announced North American and U.K. headline tours for this fall ahead of a nearly sold-out U.S. and European tour this summer, including a stop at this year’s Reading & Leeds Festival. These are the latest dates in a series of sold-out worldwide tours, including multiple-night residencies in London, Los Angeles and New York City. Watch his recent performance of “This Is Home” on Last Call With Carson Dalyand check out a full list of upcoming dates below.

The son of a professional flautist and Cambridge University’s director of music, Robin Skinner — who’s performed under the name Cavetown since 2013 — has musical talent literally embedded in his DNA. At age 14, he started posting original songs and covers on YouTube alongside daily musings and behind-the-scenes vignettes, creating a barrier-free connection with his fans as they saw themselves in his music. His whole-hearted optimism and honest songwriting is reflected in effortless melodies about yearning to make sense of life. His devoted and ever-growing fanbase has built and nurtured their own underground grassroots community centered around his music, lining up for hours ahead of shows, coordinating homemade art projects, and bringing their own kazoos to play along with him, made all the more moving by how organically it’s developed over the years. In 2018, Cavetown self-released his full-length debut Lemon Boy, which saw breakout success with its title track that’s racked up more than 16M Spotify streams and nearly 8M YouTube views. His most recent release, Animal Kingdom, is a digital mixtape series that features new songs, covers and re-imaginings of catalog material each month along with a song from a friend or peer that he’s had a hand in creating. He recently signed to Sire Records and is writing and recording new music.
